We are a nation struggling with two major crises.
One, a months-old pandemic that requires physical distancing and has made us feel socially distant, as well. And two, a centuries-old epidemic of racist violence against Black people.
This is not an easy time.
Don’t worry. I’m not going to go into all my own personal feelings here about politics and where I see this country going. Goodness knows we see plenty of this throughout the day, including a lot of oversharing on social media, which can be exhausting.
No matter what one’s politics is, we have to find a way to live and work together. We have to find a way to live on this planet, stay healthy, and keep our planet healthy. too. I am hopeful that all of this insanity will lead to something good and help us to build a world that is more equitable, just, and inclusive of all. Some people take to the streets and protest. Others write books.
Writing, authors, books, messages, speaking up, visibility is more important than ever. Authors matter. You matter. Your message matters. What you have to say and share matters. Books matter. And, of course, Black lives matter. It must be said.
Whether you have something to share that is directly related to the current challenges facing the United States and the world, or you have something that gives us a break and reprieve from the constant onslaught of terrible news, you’re needed.
What is your message? Maybe you are the one who can help the many.
