Much to my amazement, the month of August is almost upon us. I would say something trivial like, “Time flies,” but we all know that!! The good news is that with a new month comes new opportunities for you and your book. If your book ties into one of the many August themes, you may be able to get some additional media coverage. So let’s take a look at what opportunities August brings!

August is a month filled with various themes and events that can inspire a range of great topics.

  1. It’s Back to School as well as Back to Work time. Summer vacations will be wrapping up soon and it will be time to think about fall. If you have a book that ties into that theme, consider the following ideas:
    • Tips for a Smooth Transition Back to School
    • Fun and Educational Activities for Kids Before School Starts
    • Preparing for the School Year: Supplies, Schedules, and Strategies
    • Preparing for Back to Work. What should adults be doing now?
  2. August is National Wellness Month: This means it is time to focus on self-care, stress management, and healthy routines. The goal of the month is to educate people on how to take care of their minds and bodies, and to encourage them to prioritize their health. If you have a book on health and wellness, here are some ideas for you:
    • Self-Care Tips for Busy Professionals
    • The Importance of Mental Health and Wellness
    • Creating a Balanced Wellness Routine
  3. August is National Family Fun Month: Before we get revved up for back-to-school, it is time to have some more fun. This includes:

  4. August is National Dog Month:

  5. August is filled with Cultural Festivals and Events:

    • Virtual Cultural Experiences for August
  6. August is Health and Fitness Month:

    • The Benefits of Staying Active Year-Round
  7. August is about Gardening and Nature:

    • The Benefits of Gardening for Mental Health
  8. August is Travel and Exploration Month:
    • Last-Minute Summer Travel Destinations
    • Travel Safety Tips for the Pandemic Era
    • Exploring Local Hidden Gems and Attractions

These are just a few ideas but there are many more. The sky’s the limit and your own creativity is what counts.

As August unfolds, it brings with it the bittersweet recognition that summer is drawing to a close. This final month of the season offers a precious opportunity to savor the last of the warm, carefree days before the routines of fall and the bustle of back-to-school and work commitments take over. It’s a time to capture the essence of summer, to bask in its lingering warmth, and to create lasting memories with family and friends. Whether it’s through one last adventure, a family gathering, or simply enjoying the beauty of a summer sunset, August beckons us to embrace the fleeting moments and prepare our hearts and minds for the changes that the new season will bring.

And for authors, it’s another chance to tie your book into something current that is happening on the calendar, in the culture, or in the news. Good luck! And if you need any help, you know where to find me.

To your success!

Joanne

P.S. This song definitely captures that end-of-summer feeling.
