How Smart Authors Tap Into November’s Momentum

Every November, I’m reminded of an author I once worked with when the two of us turned National Gratitude Month into her springboard for media attention.

It was perfect, but the interesting thing is that her book wasn’t about gratitude. It was about burnout recovery, but we reframed her message around what she called “the gratitude gap” and how it affects our well-being.

That tiny pivot landed her multiple targeted podcasts and a feature in Thrive Global.

She didn’t change her book. She simply connected it to what the world was already talking about. And you can too.

That is the beauty of timing. When you align your message with what’s happening in the wider conversation, doors open more easily. Reporters, producers, and podcast hosts are already looking for experts to comment on these topics. You just have to raise your hand.

Here are a few November observances you might be able to tie your book into and get additional coverage:

  • National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo): Perfect for authors who teach creativity, storytelling, or the discipline of writing.
  • National Gratitude Month: A natural fit for wellness, mental health, spirituality, leadership, or personal growth books.
  • World Kindness Day (November 13): Wonderful for authors focused on compassion, community or emotional intelligence.
  • Veterans Day (November 11): For authors writing about courage, resilience, leadership, or transition.
  • National Author’s Day (November 1): A built-in excuse to celebrate you and your journey. Share the story behind why you wrote your book.
  • Small Business Saturday (November 29): Highlight entrepreneurship, creativity, and the importance of supporting indie bookstores and authors.
  • Thanksgiving (November 27): The ultimate celebration of gratitude, connection, and reflection.

And then there is Black Friday, which used to only land on the day after Thanksgiving. However, it’s become more of a month-long thing in recent years. More on that coming soon.

Bottom line

Even one of these observances can inspire a timely pitch, social post, newsletter, or podcast angle. Ideas are everywhere. We just need to keep our eyes open and brainstorm with others. I’m here to help if needed.

P.S. Here’s a gentle reminder that gratitude isn’t just a word. It’s a way of seeing the world.
