Finish Strong: Power Moves for Authors Who Aren’t Done Yet

Sunset

November has arrived. Unbelievable, isn’t it? November is that in-between month where we feel the holidays approaching, ready or not! Some are already stringing lights and listening to Christmas music, while others are resisting every mention of peppermint lattes and wondering if it’s time to put away the shorts.

This is a time of mixed emotions: a little excitement, a little overwhelm, and for many authors, there’s a wish to stay focused and get some attention for their books before the year slips away. Yes. Absolutely! Let’s do this.

And here’s the truth: even though many people say business slows down at this time of year (NOT retail, of course), the media world isn’t slowing down. At all. It’s simply shifting gears.

Producers, hosts, and editors are planning their year-end stories and early 2026 content right now. That means this is your moment. Right now.

It’s not about pushing harder. It’s about finishing intentionally. You’ve built momentum all year; now’s the time to convert that effort into opportunity. Think of November and December as your runway into 2026.

So what can we do right now? Well, it just so happens I have some power moves for you. 4 Power Moves for Authors Who Aren’t Done Yet. That’s you. Beginning with…

1. Reignite One Relationship

Think of one producer, editor, or host you connected with earlier this year. Ideally, someone who liked your work but never booked you, at least not yet. Reach out with a short, genuine note:

“I’ve been reflecting on our conversation earlier this year and would love to collaborate as you plan early 2026 content.”

You’ll be surprised how often that simple act opens a door.

2. Refresh Your Media Materials

Update your author bio, one-sheet, or media room before the year closes. Remove what’s outdated, refine what’s essential, add any coverage you’ve earned, and ensure they position you for where you’re going in 2026, not just where you’ve been.

3. Secure Another Win (or Three!) Before the Year Ends

Maybe it’s pitching a podcast, submitting an article, or saying yes to a small but meaningful local feature. Choose an opportunity that feels both doable and strategic and go for it this week. Small wins create big momentum.

4. Set the Stage for January

Outline a simple publicity focus for Q1, including the themes you’ll speak to, the outlets you want to reach, and the energy you want to bring forward. When everyone else is “getting back into it” on January 5th, you’ll already be in motion.

Bottom line

Finishing strong isn’t about squeezing in one more task. It’s about completing the year with clarity and intention so that when 2026 arrives, you’re not starting over…you’re stepping forward.

And if one of your year-end goals is to land more interviews and start the year with momentum, take a look at my Podcast Booking Services. I’d love to help you finish strong and shine in the year ahead.

To your success!

Joanne
