November Opportunities for Book Publicity

Spooky Halloween Pumpkins

Can you believe it? Halloween is just around the corner, and that means November is on its way! While the holiday season might not be on everyone’s mind yet, if you’re an author looking to boost your book’s visibility, the time to act is now. It might surprise you how many authors reach out to me in early December, hoping to snag some media attention for their books. But by then, it’s often too late. Sure, you can always engage your existing network, but if you want to broaden your reach and tap into new markets, some strategic planning is essential.

Today is all about planning

November offers some golden opportunities to promote your book, especially with key shopping dates like Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. These aren’t just for deals on electronics and gadgets; they’re perfect for showcasing your book. Here are a few key dates to keep in mind:

  • Black Friday: Traditionally, the Friday after Thanksgiving (November 29), but it now spans weeks of sales. Someone somewhere is likely having a Black Friday sale as we speak.
  • Small Business Saturday: November 30. Highlight your book and support small, local businesses.
  • Cyber Monday: December 2. Take advantage of online sales events to promote e-books, audiobooks, or even holiday gift bundles.

These dates are excellent chances to spotlight your book, whether through discounts, special promotions, or themed events. It’s time to get to it!!

But wait, there’s more! (Sounds like a commercial, doesn’t it? haha)

November is filled with observances that you can creatively tie your book promotions into. Here are some notable events:

National Entrepreneurship Month – Celebrating the spirit of innovation and the vital role entrepreneurs play in driving the economy.

Aviation History Month – Honoring the achievements and advancements in the field of aviation throughout history.

Vegan Month – This is a time to shine a light on veganism.

Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month – Highlighting the issues of hunger and homelessness, while encouraging support and solutions to help those in need.

Movember – A month-long event to raise awareness about men’s health issues, particularly prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. Men grow mustaches to show support.

National Gratitude Month – A time to focus on and express gratitude for the good things in life.

Diabetes Awareness Month – Raising awareness about diabetes, its prevention, management, and supporting those affected by the disease.

National Family Caregivers Month – Honoring those who provide care to family members, often without formal training, and recognizing their sacrifices.

Native American Heritage Month – Celebrating the culture, traditions, and contributions of Native Americans.

Adopt a Senior Pet Month – Encouraging people to adopt older pets who often get overlooked in shelters.

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), where writers challenge themselves to draft a 50,000-word novel within the month. It’s a global event that encourages creativity, discipline, and community among writers.

Peanut Butter Lovers Month – Celebrating the beloved spread and all the delicious ways to enjoy it.

Military Family Appreciation Month – Honoring the sacrifices and contributions of military families.

Adoption Awareness Month – Raising awareness about the adoption process and supporting families involved.

Make your book shine with November’s themes

If your book fits into any of these genres—business, self-help, nonfiction, history, biography, cooking, health & wellness, lifestyle, social issues, memoir, mindfulness, medical, cultural studies, pets, animal care, fiction, creativity, food & drink, or family—you have a prime opportunity to connect it to one or more of these observances. This month is all about finding those unique angles and riding the wave of awareness, celebration, and support. I am your cheerleader. Let’s go!

Whether it’s offering special discounts, creating themed content, or planning events that resonate with these dates, November can be your month to shine. Remember, strategic planning now means greater visibility later. So, let’s get those books into the hands (or devices) of new readers.

To your success!

Joanne
